My kids were amazed that spinning the crank could light all three LEDs without a single battery. Turning it the other way to see the polarity switch the lights off was a great little science lesson, and the whole thing is simple enough for them to use alone.

Cranking the handle is weirdly addictive, and reversing the direction to flip the polarity never gets old. My kid figured out the three LEDs light up faster with steady turns, not fast ones. Only 7 pieces but it's held up to daily abuse.
