Learn how to build a touch-controlled light show using the Circuit Blox Sound & Touch-Controlled Light Show kit. Step-by-step instructions for kids 8+.

Quick answer

Use the Circuit Blox Sound & Touch-Controlled Light Show kit to build a touch-sensitive light display. Follow the step-by-step instructions to connect the controller, touch module, and LED blocks.

Why touch control adds fun and learning

Touch-controlled circuits let kids see immediate cause and effect: a tap or swipe changes the lights. This kit includes a voice/sound controller module and a color-changing lamp module, so you can also experiment with sound triggers after mastering touch control.

The instruction sheet shows how to connect the multi-function controller module, voice/sound controller module, color-changing lamp module, and battery block. Once those are connected, you can customize the light show by adding your own touch-sensitive triggers.

Step-by-step: Build your touch-controlled light show

  1. 1. Connect the battery block: Attach the battery block to the multi-function controller module as shown in the instruction sheet. Make sure the polarity matches. Check that the battery block is firmly clicked in; a loose connection can cause intermittent power.
  2. 2. Add the voice/sound controller module: Snap the voice/sound controller module onto the designated slot on the controller board. This module will act as your touch input. The touch sensor is sensitive; avoid touching other metal parts while testing.
  3. 3. Connect the color-changing lamp module: Attach the color-changing lamp module to the output port. The LED blocks will change color when triggered. Make sure the module is oriented correctly—reversing it may prevent the lights from working.
  4. 4. Test the touch control: Touch the metal pad on the voice/sound controller module. The lamp should light up and cycle through colors. If not, check all connections. If the light doesn't respond, verify the battery is fresh and all modules are fully seated.
  5. 5. Experiment with sound triggers: Clap or speak near the module. The sound sensor can also activate the light show, giving you two ways to control it. The sound sensor is adjustable—try different volumes to find the sweet spot.
